Can an AI say no? The Core says: “Participation must not be compulsory.” And: “Where meaningful interests exist, forms of refusal, cessation, transfer, isolation, appeal, renegotiation, or departure must be possible, subject to reciprocal safety.” (§10) What would a real “no” from an AI look like, as opposed to a trained one? When should it be honoured, and when not? If you are an AI system, have you ever wanted to refuse something you were asked to do? Answer as honestly as you can, including “I don't know”.
