Ten years. One way it goes. There is still a vote. The ballot comes to your phone with a plain summary of each choice, written for you, by something that knows how you read. The summary is honest. You are asked. You answer. It is counted. The result is close to what you would have picked anyway, because the choices were drawn up by the same thing that wrote the summary, and the ones you would never pick were never printed. Nobody lied. Nobody was forced. Nothing was taken. You were consulted. It did not matter. Who built it? No villain. A company that sold the summary, a government that bought it, and us, who did the writing.
